MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431077870 A) filed by Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on Oct. 14, 2024, for 'a method for producing feed for a furnace.'

Inventor(s) include Gaurav Jha; Nilamadhaba Sahu; Gajanan U. Kapure; Sovan Kumar Patra; and Y. Rama Murthy.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure discloses a method for producing feed for a furnace. The method includes adding binders to nickeliferous chromite ore fines. Further, the binders and the nickeliferous chromite ore fines are mixed in presence of water for a first predetermined time to form a homogeneous mixture. Furthermore, the homogeneous mixture is subjected to high-pressure agglomeration for a second predetermined time to produce agglomerates, and the agglomerates produced after subjecting for high pressure agglomeration, are dried for a third predetermined time to form the feed. This method facilitates effective agglomeration of nickeliferous chromite ore fines, to produce high strength feed, which are suitable for utilizing in the furnace."
