MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511123950 A) filed by Graphic Era, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Dec. 9, 2025, for 'a method for lime-water detoxification of napier grass to reduce oxalate content in livestock feed.'

Inventor(s) include Nancy Chauhan; Rachan Karmakar; Debasis Mitra; Nikhil Ranjan Behera; and Saurav Sati.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to the field of livestock feed processing and provides a method for detoxifying Napier grass by reducing its oxalate content using lime-water. The method comprises mechanically cutting or shredding raw feedstock to expose multiple surfaces, preparing a lime-water solution by dissolving approximately 100 grams of lime to generate calcium hydroxide, and immersing the feedstock in a soaking chamber (10) for 2 to 3 minutes as regulated by a soak duration controller (20). During this period, calcium ions react with soluble oxalates to precipitate insoluble calcium oxalate. Excess solution is drained using a drainage and separation unit (30) with perforated features, before the feedstock is transferred to a drying station (40) for moisture removal. An apparatus version of the invention and optional integration with supplementary fodder materials further enhance the detoxification process."
