MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541131477 A) filed by Indian Council Of Agricultural Research, Kasaragod, Kerala, on Dec. 24, 2025, for 'a method for hardening of tissue-cultured arecanut plantlets.'
Inventor(s) include Hebbar Balachandra Kukkehalli; Muralikrishna Kilingar Subrahmanya; Paulraj Santhappan; Rajesh Muliyar Krishna; and Niral Vittal.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a method for hardening of tissue-cultured plantlets of Areca catechu L. (Arecanut). The method for hardening tissue-cultured plantlets enables improved propagation efficiency by promoting accelerated plantlet development and vigor, enhanced root formation, reduced transplant shock, and increased seedling survival rates after transplantation. The method for hardening of the tissue-cultured plantlet of the present disclosure facilitates a high seedling transplantation survival rate, promotes vegetative growth in the plantlets, particularly in terms of increased plant height, plant biomass, plant vigor and chlorophyll index."
