MUMBAI, India, June 16 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611054458 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on April 29, for 'a method for goniometric measurment of cervical retraction.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Ankit Sharma; Dr. Vaibhav Agarwal; Dr. Anustha Vishnoi; Dr. Megha Bahuguna; Dr. Shubham Nema; and Ms. Anuradha Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on June 5, under issue no. 23/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In the field of musculoskeletal assessment and physical therapy, a standardized goniometric method for quantifying cervical retraction during the Turtle Neck exercise is provided. The method comprises affixing an acromion process marker, a C7 spinous process marker and a mandibular symphysis marker to a subject, positioning a two-armed mechanical goniometer having a fulcrum pin, a stable arm and a movable arm with a protractor scale over the acromion marker, aligning the stable arm vertically through the C7 marker and contacting the movable arm with the mandibular marker, recording a neutral baseline angle, instructing a chin-tuck movement to record a chin-tuck angle, continuing to full turtle-neck retraction to record a full-retraction angle, repeating in a plurality of trials and calculating an average of the recorded angles to isolate anterior-posterior cervical retraction."
