MUMBAI, India, Jan. 8 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511104844 A) filed by Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, Punjab, on Oct. 30, 2025, for 'a method for formulating a controlled-release oral drug delivery system using natural polymers.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Kavita; Ms. Manisha Sharma; and Mr. Faizul Hasan.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a method for formulating a controlled-release oral drug delivery system using natural polymers (100) comprises selecting pharmaceutically active agent (102) intended for controlled release. The method also includes selecting natural polymers (104) selected from alginate, chitosan, guar gum, xanthan gum, pectin, carrageenan, starch, or cellulose derivatives. The method also includes preparing a polymeric matrix (106) by dissolving, dispersing, or blending natural polymer(s) in a pharmaceutically acceptable medium to obtain a homogeneous mixture. The method also includes incorporating the pharmaceutically active agent into polymeric matrix (108) to form a drug-polymer blend. The method also includes processing the drug-polymer blend into a dosage (110) form selected from tablets, capsules, microspheres, nanoparticles, or hydrogels. The method also includes drying and curing the dosage (112) form under controlled conditions to achieve a pre-determined drug release rate."
