Inventor(s) include Dr Avijit Mazumder; Dr Saumya Das; Ms Pooja; Dr Priyanka Bansal; Dr Rajnish Kumar; and Ms Bhavani Pentala.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed herein is a method for evaluating the nutraceutical potential of Plumeria obtusa and its therapeutic impact on liver cirrhosis and acute pancreatitis (100) comprises procuring fresh leaves from an authenticated source (102) and authenticating them through a qualified botanist with a voucher specimen (104). The leaves are processed by washing, shade-drying, pulverizing, sieving, and storing under controlled conditions (106). Phytoconstituents are extracted using solvent-based Soxhlet extraction, followed by filtration, concentration, and yield calculation (108). The extract is subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening to identify bioactive compounds (110). Experimental evaluation includes administering the extract at low and high doses to animals (112) and assessing hepatoprotective and pancreatitis-protective effects through biochemical markers (114). Further validation is performed by histopathological examination of liver and pancreatic tissues (116), along with immunofluorescence analysis for specific markers (118)."
