MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541099256 A) filed by Seric Steel Technologies Private Limited, Bangalore, Karnataka, on Oct. 14, 2025, for 'a method and furnaces for direct reduction of iron ore.'

Inventor(s) include Vasisht Dilip.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method (100) and furnaces for direct reduction of iron ore is disclosed by integrating a reduction zone within traveling grate pelletizing furnaces (200), circular pelletizing furnace (300) and sintering furnaces (400). The method (100) includes preparing a feed, drying and preheating the feed, firing under oxidizing or reducing conditions, and subjecting it to a direct reduction zone. Reducing agents such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen, syngas, solid or liquid fuels are used, with the reduction temperature maintained between 800 C and 1400 C. In sintering furnaces (400), reduction gases are drawn downward (415) and axially (420) through the bed. The reduced iron is cooled under inert or controlled atmospheres using gases like nitrogen, recycled reducing gases, or low-oxygen air. Process parameters including temperature, gas composition, and quality are monitored and controlled to optimize reduction."
