MUMBAI, India, Feb. 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541097957 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, on Oct. 10, 2025, for 'a method and composition for bio-polyurethane/graphene oxide nanocomposite.'
Inventor(s) include Sudhakar Y N; Nagaraj Kamath; Supritha S; Sanjana Suvarna; and Balaji S.
The application for the patent was published on Feb. 27, under issue no. 09/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention discloses a method and composition for creating the bio-polyurethane/graphene oxide nanocomposite suitable for energy and environmental applications. The method involves epoxidizing palm oil, followed by hydroxylating the epoxy oil to produce the palm-based polyol. Graphene oxide is dispersed in methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) using the ultrasonicator. The graphene oxide-MDI mixture is then blended with the palm-based polyol and stirred until it forms the homogeneous mixture. Finally, the mixture is cured in the curing oven to form the bio-polyurethane/graphene oxide nanocomposite. The resulting nanocomposite exhibits enhanced mechanical strength, thermal stability, and carbon capture capabilities, making it suitable for energy storage and environmental remediation. The use of palm oil polyol provides the sustainable alternative to petroleum-based materials, enhancing the eco-friendliness."
