MUMBAI, India, April 20 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411076487 A) filed by Chairman, Defence Research & Development Organisation, New Delhi, on Oct. 9, 2024, for 'a method and a system for producing external integral cable ducts in filament-wound composite rocket motor casings.'
Inventor(s) include Buragohain, Manoj Kumar; Singh, P Sundar; Krishnarao, Tejasvi; Addanki, Rajesh; and Sinha, Surjeet.
The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system and method for producing an external integral cable duct in a filament-wound composite rocket motor casing. The system comprising (a) a prefabricated inverted U-shaped composite section (601) fabricated using compression molding, wherein the composite section is made from reinforcement fabric and resin; (b) a trimming apparatus for trimming the prefabricated composite section to achieve desired dimensions (502, 503, 504, 505); (c) a mapping device for mapping surface undulations (704) of the rocket motor casing (105) and marking the prefabricated composite section accordingly (705); (d) a final edge trimming apparatus for performing final edge trimming of the prefabricated composite section based on the mapped undulations; (e) positioning means for positioning the final edge-trimmed composite section (801) on the rocket motor casing and securing it between two metallic bulkheads (104) using guides (702) and end stoppers (703); (f) a winding and lay-up apparatus for carrying out outer winding and lay-up of composite layers (1001) over the positioned composite section and the rocket motor casing to form an aerodynamically efficient and structurally sound integral cable duct; and (g) a curing oven for curing the composite layers to complete the integral cable duct."
