MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641001539 A) filed by Presidency University, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on Jan. 7, for 'a manual fabric-forming system and its method thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Ashok A Itagi; Dr. Shwetha A; and Dr. Nakul Ramanna.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a manual fabric-forming system and method for producing fabric-like sheets using pliable raw materials without powered ma-chinery. The system comprises a rectangular wooden frame having multiple peg-receiving holes arranged along its periphery and a plurality of removable wooden pegs selectively inserted to define a customizable grid. A pliable raw material, converted into a rope-like form, is manually interlaced around the pegs in orthogonal directions to form a fabric-like structure, which is subsequently lifted from the frame as a uni-tary sheet. The invention enables decentralized, low-cost fabrication of fabric structures from conventional or waste-derived materials, facilitating recycling, value addition, and sustainable hand-based production."
