MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085595 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 14, 2023, for 'a latching device for a swiveling backrest of a seat in a vehicle.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A latching device (100, 100') for a swiveling backrest of a seat in a vehicle is disclosed. The latching device (100, 100') can comprise a latch mechanism (110) for locking and unlocking of the swiveling backrest of the seat. The latch mechanism (110) can further include a push button (101) for deactivating the latch mechanism (110) and a indicator (102) for activating the latch mechanism (110). The push button (101) can activate the latch mechanism (110) for operating the latching device (100, 100') to unlock the swiveling backrest and the indicator (102) can be activated by a lever (103) operated via the push button (101) such that the indicator (102), when pressed down by a user of the vehicle, locks the swiveling backrest in a desired inclined position."
