MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421038386 A) filed by Kalbande, Surendra R; and Phadtare, Prajakta Dinkar, Akola, Maharashtra, on May 16, 2024, for 'a horizontal auger pyrolysis reactor for agro residue biochar.'
Inventor(s) include Kalbande, Surendra R; and Phadtare, Prajakta Dinkar.
The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a horizontal auger pyrolysis reactor for agro residue biochar production presents an innovative solution for sustainable biomass conversion. The horizontal auger pyrolysis reactor for agro residue biochar comprises a hopper (6) feeding agricultural residues onto a redler conveyor (8), which transports them to a horizontal screw reactor (1) equipped with an electric heating coil for precise temperature control. Temperature sensors and a control panel (5) ensure optimal conditions. After pyrolysis, a cyclone separator (3) collects biochar, dispensed via an outlet tray (4). An exhaust gas outlet (10) removes residual gases. The system, housed in a sturdy main frame (2), is driven by an electrical motor (9) with speed control. A variable frequency drive (VFD) adjusts augur speed. This continuous process offers scalability and efficiency, addressing key challenges in biochar."
