MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541125320 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'a floodwater barrier system and a method for operating the same.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The disclosed floodwater barrier system (100) for premises, includes a barrier door (102) made of a steel, housed below a ground level (GL) in an underground position, and positioned on a front side of a main gate (101) of the premises, during a non-operational condition. The floodwater barrier system (100) includes a lifting mechanism (104) operatively coupled to the barrier door (102). The lifting mechanism (104) is configured to lift the barrier door (102) to a predetermined height above the ground level (GL) from the underground position, such that a portion of the barrier door (102) remains below the ground level (GL) during an operational condition, to restrict passing of flooded water therethrough during flood events."
