MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541115010 A) filed by Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, on Nov. 21, 2025, for 'a fault tolerant system for bldc motors with backup control for complete hall sensor failure.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. K. S. K Rishna Veni; and Dr. S. T. Jaya Christa.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A fault tolerant control system for Brushless DC (BLDC) motors is disclosed. The system maintains continuous and reliable motor operation even when all three Hall effect sensors fail. The system employs a Radial Basis Neural Network (RBNN) trained to accept as inputs the current Hall sensor state, the previous four sensor states and the rotor's direction of rotation. Based on these inputs, the RBNN outputs the appropriate switching sequence required for motor commutation. The system ensures real-time control with a loop execution time of approximately 1 millisecond. This invention eliminates the need for redundant sensors or additional hardware while providing high reliability during both normal operation and complete sensor fault conditions."
