MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202513103018 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, on Oct. 25, 2025, for 'a falling weight apparatus and method for testing of specimen under oblique impact.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A falling weight apparatus (100) for testing of specimen under oblique impact. The apparatus (100) comprises a main rigid base (200), a rigid weight lifting frame (300). The upper end of the rigid weight lifting frame (300) is held in position vertically using a rigid diaphragm (400). The apparatus (100) further comprises a hammer lifting arrangement (500) fixed on a top portion of the rigid diaphragm (400) and a hammer assembly (600) configured with the rigid weight lifting frame (300). The apparatus (100) further comprises plurality of support structures (800 and 900) configured with the main rigid base (200), a tilting platform (700) configured between the pair of support structure (800) and pin-supported with support (900), and a test specimen (1100) arranged on the tilting platform (700). The apparatus (100) further comprises a plurality of sensors configured to measure one or more response parameters associated with the apparatus (100)."
