MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541018474 A) filed by Beml Limited, Bengaluru, Karnataka, on March 3, 2025, for 'a dual-mode two-speed transfer case with angular gear placement for compact design and high torque capacity.'

Inventor(s) include Suresh P R; and Shankar S.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a dual-mode two-speed transfer case with angular gear placement for compact design and high torque capacity. The engine (1) delivers power to the variable ratio transmission (16). The transmission is connected to the cardan shaft (18), which acts as the input to the innovative transfer case (20). This transfer case features a two-speed reduction and planetary torque biasing unit (07). The transfer case distributes 70% of torque to the rear axles via the rear drive shaft (16) and 30% of torque to front shaft (27) at same speed on front and rear, achieving a drop distance of 480 mm. From the rear drive shaft, power is distributed to the rear wheels (40) through the rear differential (43) with the assistance of rear half shafts (49)."
