MUMBAI, India, June 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517031789 A) filed by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, Edgbaston, U.K., on March 31, for 'a device for treating a fistula.'

Inventor(s) include Henson, Timothy George; Keighley, Michael Robert Burch; Li, Elizabeth; Pinkney, Thomas; and Raxworthy, Michael John.

The application for the patent was published on June 13, under issue no. 24/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to devices and related methods for treating fistulas such as anal or recto-vaginal fistulas. Typically, the devices comprise a seton and an elongate body of tissue growth promoting matrix material, wherein the elongate body is suitable for being positioned within the fistula tract. In one aspect of the invention the elongate body comprises a plurality of protrusions positioned on at least one outer surface of said elongate body. In another aspect of the invention, the device comprises one or more attachment points positioned along the length of the elongate body, wherein the one or more attachment points are configured to connect the elongate body to a further seton."

The patent application was internationally filed on Oct. 20, 2023, under International application No.PCT/GB2023/052738.
