MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511114188 A) filed by Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Nov. 20, 2025, for 'a device for a refillable sketchbook with dual knurled-post top clips.'
Inventor(s) include Ms. Shivanshi Bhushan; Ms. Mandeep Kaur; Ms. Dechen Angmo; and Ms. Megha Karkala Prabhu.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a device for a refillable sketchbook with dual knurled-post top clips. The refillable sketchbook device comprises a planar board of lightweight wood overlain by a waterproof sheet and two symmetrically spaced top-edge knurled-post clips. The clips accept pre-punched A3 or A4 sheets and enable tool-less tightening by finger grip, permitting rapid insertion and removal while maintaining lay-flat geometry. An anti-tear edge and rounded-corner construction reduce damage in field use. The structure remains locked against accidental release during sketching yet allows intentional refilling without tools. The device accommodates mixed-media papers up to 300 gsm and supports portrait and landscape orientations via detachable cover embodiments. Standardized refills and recyclable materials enable reduced waste and robust service life. The arrangement addresses bulk from rings, misalignment of sheets, page tearing at binding points, slow refills, and non-flat laying surfaces. Alternative embodiments include variations in clip spacing, cover detachability, and accessory integration, without departing from the core mechanism."
