MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087918 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'a device and method of rock splitting by blasting of small sized holes drilled between large sized holes.'
Inventor(s) include More Ramulu; Partho Biswapati Choudhury; and Saurav Rukhaiyar.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "An ultra-safe method of rock splitting is provided in which a small sized blast hole placed in between two large diameter bore holes and a mild explosive charge consisting tied strands of detonation fuse of 10gm per meter charge concentration is loaded and blasted to create a linear fracture plane which extends up to a distance of 8-10 times the diameter, where a large diameter bore hole is placed for containment of shock energy which results in effective fracture generation. Shock wave released due to mild charge explosion interact with adjacent boreholes and subsequently generate a plane of tension, resulting in creation of fracture plane without disturbing the surrounding rock mass and sensitive structures."
