MUMBAI, India, Jan. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511103773 A) filed by Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan, on Oct. 28, 2025, for 'a decentralized social media platform for sustainable digital wellbeing.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Avani Sharma; Ritik Raj; Vikram Singh Gangwar; and Tejashree Venkatesh.
The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a decentralized social media platform designed for sustainable digital wellbeing. It comprises a blockchain-based backend using Proof-of-Stake (PoS) for energy-efficient, scalable operations and decentralized storage (e.g., IPFS) for censorship-resistant content hosting. Smart contracts enable transparent token-based rewards, user staking, screen-time tracking with capped incentives, and secure role-based access. A real-time moderation system monitors user activity and dynamically adjusts rewards to reduce addictive behavior. Further, it consists of a modular architecture integrating a user interface, smart contract logic, and a secure blockchain layer. An open-source codebase with event logging ensures transparency and auditability. User dashboards and visualization tools provide insights into staking, rewards, and usage trends. The customization options support enterprise, education, and mental health applications, promoting ethical engagement and moderated communication aligned with digital well-being goals."
