According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A controlled-release oral tablet system (100) for targeted absorption comprises a core containing an active pharmaceutical ingredient (105), a swellable polymeric matrix (104), and osmotically active agents (106), surrounded by a semi-permeable membrane (103) having at least one channel (108) forming a controlled drug release output (110). A mucoadhesive targeting layer (102) overlies the membrane (103), and an enteric coating layer (101) overlies the mucoadhesive layer (102). The enteric coating layer (101) dissolves at a selected intestinal pH, enabling mucoadhesive anchoring and osmotic, controlled release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (105) at a targeted gastrointestinal region."
