MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521111150 A) filed by Symbiosis International, Pune, Maharashtra, on Nov. 13, 2025, for 'a computer-implemented method and system for assessing and enhancing awareness toward palliative care.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Sheela Upendra; Dr. Jasneet Kaur; and Ms. Hemla Birla.

The application for the patent was published on Dec. 12, under issue no. 50/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a computer-implemented method and system for assessing and enhancing awareness toward palliative care. The method employs stratified sampling across rural and urban populations to collect responses through structured, multilingual questionnaires aligned with behavioural models such as the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behaviour. Awareness and attitude scores are computed, segmented by socio-demographic factors, and analysed statistically to identify disparities and misconceptions distinguishing palliative care from hospice or euthanasia. The system incorporates rule-based and machine-learning classifiers to detect misconceptions and generate culturally adapted, stratum-specific communication strategies. A feedback-driven engagement framework prioritizes intervention topics using impact-feasibility ranking and deploys outreach modules through appropriate community channels. Post-intervention assessments using stratified difference-in-differences estimators enable iterative refinement, ensuring evidence-based improvement in public understanding and acceptance of palliative care services."
