MUMBAI, India, June 16 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611054029 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Roorkee, Uttarakhand, on April 28, for 'a composition comprising acetate and aminoglycosides for treating bacterial infections in obese hosts.'
Inventor(s) include Prof. Ranjana Pathania; Mr. Arsalan Hussain; Mr. Parteek Bhardwaj; Mr. Ashish Kumar Ray; Mr. Aakash Singh; and Dr. Abhiroop Sett.
The application for the patent was published on June 5, under issue no. 23/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a compositions and methods for restoring and enhancing the efficacy of aminoglycoside antibiotics against Gram-negative bacterial infections in metabolically compromised subjects, particularly obese hosts, by administration of acetate or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in combination with one or more aminoglycoside antibiotics.. The invention restores host immune signaling and enhances bacterial antibiotic uptake by modulating proton motive force, thereby overcoming host-driven antibiotic tolerance and improving bacterial clearance."
