MUMBAI, India, May 29 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641044193 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 7, for 'a combined t-burnisher and hematoxylin -eosin pencil instrument for posterior palatal seal marking i.'
Inventor(s) include Mithil Darshan Vora; Subhabratamaiti; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on May 29, under issue no. 22/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Accurate recording of the posterior palatal seal area is a critical step in the fabrication of maxillary complete dentures. Conventionally, this procedure requires the use of a Tburnisher to identify the seal area and a hematoxylin-eosin pencil to mark the delineation for transfer onto dental impressions. These instruments are typically used separately, resulting in frequent interruptions during clinical procedures due to instrument unavailability, concerns regarding contamination, and increased chairside time. The present invention introduces a novel combined dental instrument that integrates aTburnisher and a hematoxylin-eosin pencil into a single, double-ended tool. One end of the instrument comprises aT-shaped burnisher head designed for contouring the posterior palatal seal, while the opposite end houses a hematoxylin-eosin pencil tip for immediate marking of the palate. A centrally located ergonomic handle connects both ends, ensuring balanced handling and ease of use. This integrated design eliminates the need for switching between separate instruments, thereby improving procedural efficiency, reducing contamination risks, and enhancing accuracy in posterior palatal seal recording. The instrument is suitable for routine clinical and academic prosthodontic use and represents a simple yet effective innovation in dental instrument design."
