MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521128826 A) filed by Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune, Maharashtra, on Dec. 18, 2025, for 'a colorimetric composition for pre-dental examination aid in oral and systemic health assessment.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a calorimetric composition for oral and systemic health screening, in the form of chewable products like gum or toffee. It includes pH indicators such as Bromothymol blue, Phenol red, Gold-Conjugated HIV antigens, antibodies that change colour in response to pH or disease interactions. The base matrix consists of materials like Polyvinyl acetate and Polyisobutylene, with excipients such as sweeteners and fluoride to enhance taste and oral health. The composition detects dental plaque, caries, and systemic infections such as HIV, Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis through colour changes in saliva during mastication. This rapid, cost-effective tool is ideal for resource-limited settings and community health programs."
