MUMBAI, India, April 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621013868 A) filed by D. Y. Patil Education Society, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on Feb. 9, for 'a chemical method of molybdenum disulfide (mos2) coating for energy storage and electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (oer) applications.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Pravin Prakash Pawar; Ms. Gouri Mohan Khot; Mr. Vinay Avinash Nimat; Mr. Suraj Ravasaheb Sankapal; and Prof. Chandrakant Dnyandev Lokhande.

The application for the patent was published on April 17, under issue no. 16/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention claims a chemical method for synthesis of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) coating on stainless steel (SS) substrate with large area. The deposition of MoS2 over SS substrate is carried out using an aqueous precursor solution of molybdenum and sulfur. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image confirms that MoS2 having hexagonal crystal structure and wrinkled nanosheet like morphology. MoS2 thin coating electrodes are tested using electrochemical cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge, and linear sweep voltammetry techniques. The MoS2 thin coating electrode exhibited specific capacitance of 414 F/g at 5 mV/s. Towards the oxygen evolution reaction application, the molybdenum disulfide thin coating catalyst exhibits an overpotential of 275 mV at 10 mA cm-2 current density. The synthesized MoS2 through hydrothermal method is suitable candidate for supercapacitor and water splitting applications."
