A proposed strategy for energy sourcing integrates carbon emissions by establishing hourly limits and modifying them according to the carbon intensity of the electricity grid. This methodology aims to reduce the carbon footprint linked with cloud services. While acknowledging that this approach may lead to variations in capacity, we assess its effectiveness using real workloads from providers like Microsoft and Google, considering elements such as variability, dynamic range, structural makeup, and frequency of changes. Carbon-aware policies can maintain high performance while promoting efficiency in cloud operations. Through the adoption of proactive adjustments and improved scheduling techniques."
