MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621003709 A) filed by Vishwakarma Institute Of Technology, Pune, Maharashtra, on Jan. 14, for 'a blind stick with obstacle detection and non-gps sos alert system.'
Inventor(s) include Karandikar, Varsha Narayan; Shingane, Devyani; Shinganapurkar, Renuka; Shirbate, Malhar; Shivale, Pranav; Dubey, Shivam; and Chandak, Shlok.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a stick system equipped with obstacle detection and a non-GPS emergency alert mechanism. The system comprises a power supply (101) providing electrical energy, an ultrasonic sensor (102) mounted at the front of the stick for detecting obstacles within a predefined distance, a microcontroller (104) based on Arduino Uno configured to process sensor data and generate alert signals, and a buzzer (106) for auditory feedback of varying intensity based on obstacle proximity. A panic button (103) enables emergency activation, and a communication interface transmits internet-based requests to a mobile device (105) running a mobile automation application. Upon receiving the SOS trigger signal, the application retrieves location data and transmits emergency messages to predefined contacts. The system operates without GPS or GSM modules, reduces hardware complexity and power consumption, and provides real-time obstacle alerts and emergency communication using existing smartphone infrastructure."
