MUMBAI, India, Nov. 21 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421038385 A) filed by Kalbande, Surendra R; and Lukose, Rinju, Akola, Maharashtra, on May 16, 2024, for 'a biomass-based distillation system for essential oil extraction.'

Inventor(s) include Kalbande, Surendra R; and Lukose, Rinju.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 21, under issue no. 47/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a biomass-based distillation system for essential oil extraction from medicinal plants like lemongrass and citronella. The boiler features a cylindrical shell housing a combustion chamber with a fixed grate for efficient solid biomass fuel combustion. Two horizontal cross pipes (02) positioned within concentric shells optimize heat transfer and water circulation during combustion, enhancing steam generation efficiency. A chimney (01) ensures efficient exhaust gas release, while safety mechanisms including pressure gauge and relief valve (03) maintain safe operation. The boiler's design facilitates precise steam control and measurement with steam outflow valve and flow meter. Specifically engineered for small to medium-scale producers, the boiler promotes sustainability by utilizing wood-fired biomass fuel and enabling eco-friendly extraction practices. This innovative solution empowers producers with cost-effective steam generation, fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth in the essential oil industry."
