MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202341066808 A) filed by R. Indhumathi; and R. Ramesh Kumar, Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, on March 5, 2024, for 'a biodegradable container and method of making the same.'
Inventor(s) include R. Indhumathi; and R. Ramesh Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a method for manufacturing a biodegradable container using sugarcane-derived material. The process begins by shredding, drying and pulverizing sugar canes which includes immature sugarcane stems with retained residual juice that serves as a natural binder. The resulting sugarcane fiber is then mixed with natural binders, along with controlled amounts of water and coconut oil to form a uniform dough. The dough is die-cast into a predetermined shape and cured at temperatures ranging from 150 to 230 C. After curing, the container is air dried, with optional post-processing steps like mechanical grinding to enhance packaging and biodegradation properties. The final product, which may be configured as disposable cups, tea tumblers, or flower pots, offers a sustainable alternative to traditional plastics, ensuring rapid biodegradation while utilizing agro-based raw materials."
