MUMBAI, India, Jan. 9 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531127030 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology, Rourkela, Orissa, on Dec. 15, 2025, for '3-d reinforced glass fiber/graphene nanoplatelet/epoxy composite and method of manufacturing thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Prusty, Dr. Rajesh Kumar; Rathore, Dr. Dinesh Kumar; Ray, Dr. Bankim Chandra; and Jana, Mr. Parimal.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 9, under issue no. 02/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Embodiments herein discloses a method for manufacturing a glass fiber-reinforced epoxy composite having enhanced mechanical properties by dispersing pristine graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) in an epoxy resin at a concentration of about 0.5 wt% to get a graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) modified epoxy resin, impregnating the graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) modified epoxy resin into one or more layers of glass fiber reinforcement to form a fiber-resin assembly, applying an alternating current (AC) electric field of approximately 400 V/mm at a frequency of about 50 Hz across the fiber-resin assembly and curing the fiber-resin assembly under said electric field. Further, the alignment of the pristine graphene nanoplatelets in the glass fiber reinforced epoxy composite provides improved interlaminar fracture toughness, interlaminar shear strength, flexural strength, and tensile strength."
