MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411024018 A) filed by Chandigarh University; and Chandigarh University Technology Business Incubator, Mohali, Punjab, on March 26, 2024, for '3-d (three- dimensional) filament storage device.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A 3-D (Three- Dimensional) filament storage device, comprising a cuboidal body 1 segregated into sections each dedicated to store spools of 3-D (Three- Dimensional) filament of different colors, a circular disc 2 installed in each sections via a rod 3 that is to be manually engaged in center portion of spools, a laser acuity sensor detects inner diameter, an expandable pulley arrangement 4 integrated increases/decreases diameter of discs 2 for gripping discs 2 with spools, a microphone 5 accessed by a user to give voice commands regarding need of particular filaments, an artificial intelligence-based imaging unit determines spools wrapped with user-defined filament, a telescopically operated gripper 7 grips free-end of filament and passing out from body 1 via an opening for allowing user to utilize filament for 3-D printing, and a DC motor rotates disc 2 and spool for coiling filament back on spool."
