Abstract: ABSTRACT 2-KETO-L-GULONIC ACID PRODUCTION 5 The present invention relates to production of 2-keto-L-gulonic acid, an intermediate in the semi- synthetic production of ascorbic acid. Recombinant cells expressing genes coding for enzymes able to oxidize L-sorbose to 2-keto-L-gulonic acid are cultivated in a medium for a suitable time to produce 2-keto-L-gulonic acid.
