MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641125261 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 21, 2026, for “ultrasound-Responsive Vesicular Cargo Release System With Acoustic Strain-Concentrating Inclusion”.

Inventors include I. S. Rajay Vedaraj; and P N Bhargav Teja.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an ultrasound-responsive vesicular cargo release system comprising a vesicle having a lipid bilayer, at least one mechanically responsive membrane protein incorporated in the lipid bilayer, and at least one acoustic strain-concentrating inclusion mechanically coupled to the lipid bilayer. The acoustic strain-concentrating inclusion is configured to generate a locally increased membrane tension upon exposure to an acoustic field, thereby actuating the mechanically responsive membrane protein while maintaining the bilayer in an unruptured state. The present invention further comprises an ultrasound transducer, sensing arrangement, transducer driver, and controller configured to estimate local membrane tension, compare a release condition with a predetermined reference trajectory, and regulate at least one ultrasound operating parameter under a safety constraint. Cargo release is controlled through acoustically induced channel gating and population recruitment of vesicles rather than destructive rupture of the carrier. The present invention thereby enables controlled, reversible, and graded vesicular cargo release using ultrasound actuation. Fig 1 to 6.
