MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621077298 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay on June 23, 2026, for “two-Stage Optical Steering-Wheel Angle Determination Using Multiple Visual Markers”.

Inventors include Ashutosh Pandey; and Avijit Maji.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Two-Stage Optical Steering-Wheel Angle Determination Using Multiple Visual Markers The proposed invention describes a steering-wheel angle estimation device (100) and a method for two-stage optical steering-wheel-angle determination using multiple visual markers. The method comprises receiving sequence of image frames showing steering wheel carrying plurality of visual markers from optical sensing device (102); determining, for each visual marker from plurality of visual markers that is detected in an image frame from the sequence of image frames, a marker position in a steering-wheel plane by using optical sensing device (102) calibration data and a reference marker configuration; determining a respective steering-wheel-angle value for each detected visual marker by comparing the marker position in the steering-wheel plane with corresponding initial marker position in the reference marker configuration; selecting, from the respective steering- wheel-angle values, valid steering-wheel-angle values that satisfy temporal validity criterion relative to previously accepted steering-wheel-angle value; determining a consolidated steering-wheel-angle value from valid steering-wheel-angle values; and outputting consolidated steering-wheel-angle value.
