MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441101286 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 20, 2024, for “system And Method For Controlling Operation Of Light Detection And Ranging (lidar) In A Vehicle”.
Inventors include Shivarama Devarasetty; Vikram Balisavira; Shabir Kumar; and Patnaikuni Srikhar.
The application for the patent was published on July 10, 2026, under issue no. 28/2026.
Abstract: The present invention describes a system (200) for controlling field of view (FOV) operation 5 of light detection and ranging (LiDAR) in a vehicle. The system comprises a processing unit (204) configured to divide an FOV into a plurality of segments, determine at least one potential blocked grid segment from the plurality of segments based on the plurality of frames and determine a blockage value of each of the plurality of segments based on the determined at least one potential grid segment. After determining the blockage value, the processing unit 10 (204) further configured to determine at least one segment from the plurality of segments as a blocked segment by comparing the determined blockage value of each of the plurality of segments with a predefined threshold value and control the FOV operation of the LiDAR based on the determined at least one blocked segments.
