Abstract: Abstract An autonomous, self-sustaining waste collection robotic system and associated operating method are disclosed for human-centric sanitation management in public spaces. The system comprises a differential-drive mobile chassis supporting an open-top waste bin, a photovoltaic solar panels array, a lithium-ion battery back, and a specialized step-down buck converter power distribution circuit. A central single-board edge processor coordinates real-time video acquisition from a forward- mounted camera module and applies a localized YOLOv8 convolutional neural network architecture to detect human users. Upon classification of a human target, the processor computes an intercept trajectory to approach the user and halts at a safe distance to broadcast acoustic voice instructions inviting direct waste disposal into the bin. External ultrasonic arrays provide dynamic obstacle avoidance, while an internal downward-facing ultrasonic transceiver monitors bin volumetric capacity, executing automated alert protocols and routing the vehicle to a disposal station upon reaching maximum storage capacity thresholds.
