MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631086187 A) filed by Guru Nanak Institute Of Hotel Management on July 14, 2026, for “smart Surfaces For Hotel Storage That Detects Weight Charges And Automated Inventory Tracking”.

Inventors include Prof. Dr. Pralay Ganguly; Bidisha Samal Kanjilal; and Chintan Kapoor.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT A smart surface assembly for automated inventory tracking within a hospitality property management environment includes a modular base platform layer defining discrete item-placement zones and an integrated weight sensor array positioned underneath to continuously measure localized mass loads. A localized circuit assembly containing a signal conditioning module and an embedded microcontroller unit processes analog weight fluctuations into high-resolution digital data. The microcontroller unit calculates mass delta profiles, matches the computed values against a local weight-signature database to determine specific stock keeping unit changes, and generates encrypted event packets. An onboard wireless communication module transmits these packets through a gateway to a remote cloud server. The server automatically updates a master inventory ledger, executes predictive restocking workflows, and interacts with a Property Management System to automate guest billing while employing adaptive time-domain grace windows to eliminate false-positive charges.
