MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631108366 A) filed by International Institute Of Nursing And Research on September 09, 2026, for “smart Range Of Motion Detection Pad For Frozen Shoulder Assessment And Rehabilitation”.
Inventors include Dr. Indrakshi Basu; Medhavi Verma; Dr. Sourajit Ghosh; Rima Bhattacharjee; and Monalisha Chatterjee.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention of Smart Range of Motion Detection Pad for Frozen Shoulder Assessment and Rehabilitation, comprises flexible biomedical-grade wearable shoulder pad integrated with a plurality of motion sensors, accelerometers, gyroscopes, inertial measurement units (IMUs) and flexible sensors positioned at predetermined anatomical landmarks. The sensors detect shoulder movements and generate motion signals corresponding to flexion, extension, abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation. An onboard microcontroller processes the acquired signals using sensor-fusion and motion-analysis techniques to determine shoulder range-of-motion parameters, movement velocity, and movement accuracy. The processed data are transmitted wirelessly through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to a mobile application or computer-based platform for real-time visualization, data storage, rehabilitation scoring, longitudinal monitoring, and progress assessment. The system provides real-time feedback regarding correct movement, insufficient range of motion, exercise completion and rehabilitation performance, while enabling remote monitoring by physiotherapists or orthopedic clinicians. The wearable and lightweight configuration facilitates use in clinical as well as home-based rehabilitation and supports individualized physiotherapy planning and tele-rehabilitation. The invention provides an objective, continuous, and user-friendly alternative or complement to intermittent manual ROM assessment for monitoring functional recovery in individuals with restricted shoulder mobility associated with frozen shoulder.
