MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611090615 A) filed by Dit University on July 25, 2026, for “sensitivity-Enhanced Plasmonic Tapered Optical Fiber Sensor For Label Free Creatinine Detection In Serum ”.
Inventors include Dr. Vivek Kumar Gupta; and Dr. Kuldeep Choudhary.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a Sensitivity-Enhanced Plasmonic Tapered Optical Fiber Sensor for Label Free Creatinine Detection in Serum. The sensor comprises a single-mode optical fiber having a tapered sensing region formed between two non-tapered fiber portions, a broadband light source optically coupled to one end of the fiber, and an optical spectrometer coupled to the opposite end for recording transmitted optical spectra. The tapered sensing region is preferably formed by non-contact plasma-based tapering of a single-mode fiber having an initial core diameter of about 9 µm and cladding diameter of about 125 µm, to obtain a reduced waist diameter of about 40 µm and sensing length of about 4 mm. The reduced diameter enhances evanescent field interaction between guided optical radiation and the surrounding creatinine-containing sample, causing a measurable shift in peak resonance wavelength. The sensor enables compact, reusable and real-time creatinine concentration assessment over a range of about 60 µM to 500 µM. Fig 1 to 5.
