Abstract: A Method for Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement ABSTRACT The invention relates to a method for ocean alkalinity enhancement wherein addition of alkalinity- enhancing substances such as aragonite - rich limemud into marine systems below 200m water depth where the aragonite saturation level is 1, calcium carbonate dissolves to release calcium and carbonate ions, reacting with carbon dioxide (CO2) to form bicarbonate (HCO3?), thereby enhancing buffering capacity of seawater, and promoting additional CO2 uptake from atmosphere.
