Abstract: “Portable Cyclic Voltammetr-yBased Electrochemical Device for Detection of Counterfeit and Adulterated” ABSTRACT Adulterated pharmaceutical tablets impose a serious threat to public health, particularly in places where there are limited resources and the lab grade testing equipment is unavailable. Traditional detection techniques like chromatography and spectroscopy, although being accurate, are cost-effective and time consuming. The proposed approach provides a low cost and portable device for the detection of counterfeit medicines based on electrical conductivity using a special technique known as Cyclic Voltammetry. The device measures the electrical conductivity of the aqueous solution of various common life-sustaining medicines like paracetamol, aspirin and Vitamin- C tablets, analyses the electrical response of the medicines as a unique distinguishing signature. Experiments were conducted under controlled preparation conditions with fixed preparation procedure. The results displayed a unique electrical signature with a distinctive stability behavior. The obtained values are repeatable which indicates that the output recorded was stable and able to reproduce correctly with minimal tolerance in accuracy. While the proposed solution does not mitigate the lab-based pill verification technique, it provides a faster and cost-effective tool for identifying potentially adulterated tablets. The simplicity, portability and low power requirements make it suitable for users to use it for pharmaceutical tablet quality assessment. (Figure 1)
