Abstract: ABSTRACT “Method and system for producing FeSi-75 grade ferrosilicon from recovered photovoltaic silicon” 5 10 15 The present invention discloses a method and system for producing FeSi-75 grade ferrosilicon from recovered photovoltaic silicon obtained from discarded photovoltaic modules. The method comprises providing a recovered photovoltaic silicon feedstock comprising silicon wafer fragments (300A) obtained from one or more monocrystalline silicon or polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic solar cells of the discarded photovoltaic modules after removal of silver contact metallization and aluminium back-contact material from the photovoltaic solar cells. The method further comprises charging the recovered photovoltaic silicon feedstock and electrolytic iron (300B) into an induction furnace (108) in a charge ratio selected to produce a ferrosilicon material having a silicon content corresponding to FeSi-75 grade. Further, the method comprises melting the recovered photovoltaic silicon feedstock and the electrolytic iron in the induction furnace (108) to form a molten iron-silicon alloy, and then solidifying the molten iron-silicon alloy to obtain the FeSi-75 grade ferrosilicon material.
