Abstract: The present invention discloses an IoT-based sustainable post-harvest onion storage system that significantly reduces post-harvest losses through automated environmental monitoring and intelligent ventilation control. The system comprises a sensor array (DHT22 temperature/humidity sensor, MQ-135 gas sensor, BH1750 light sensor) connected to an ESP32 microcontroller for edge data acquisition and threshold-based control of an automated ventilation fan. A Raspberry Pi gateway hosts MQTT broker, Node-RED data processing, InfluxDB time-series storage, and Grafana visualization components. A MEAN stack web application (MongoDB, Express.js, Angular, Node.js) provides farmer-friendly remote monitoring interfaces. The system maintains optimal onion storage conditions (temperature 25-30 degrees Celsius, humidity 60-75 percent RH) and reduces post-harvest losses from 30-50 percent (traditional methods) to 5-8 percent, while extending shelf life from 2- 3 months to 8-10 months. The low-cost design (Rs. 15,000-20,000 per unit) makes it accessible to small and marginal farmers.
