Abstract: ABSTRACT “IMPROVED METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING PONATINIB INTERMEDIATE USING A NANO CATALYST” The present invention provides an improved, cost-effective, and industrially scalable method for manufacturing a key intermediate useful in the synthesis of Ponatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. The method is carried out by (a) preparing a nitrating mixture by adding nitric acid to an acid under stirring; (b) adding a nano-catalyst to the nitrating mixture; (c) adding a compound of formula 1 to the nitrating mixture in portions while maintaining the reaction temperature at or below 30°C; (d) allowing the reaction to proceed at temperature 25oC to 30°C until completion; (e) diluting the reaction mixture with water; and extracting with a solvent to obtain a solvent layer; and (g) isolating the nitrated compound of formula I from the solvent layer; wherein key intermediate (nitrated compound of Formula I) is obtained with a yield of at least 70% and a purity of at least 95% as determined by Mass and 1HNMR.
