Inventors include Akash Kumar Pandey; Dr. Mahesh Madanrao Jadhav; and Dr. Surya Prakash Gupta.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to ketoconazole-loaded polymeric nanosponges for sustained drug release and improved pharmacokinetic performance. The nanosponges comprise ketoconazole, a matrix-forming polymer selected from ethyl cellulose and HPMC K15M, and polyvinyl alcohol as stabilizer. The nanosponges are prepared by emulsion-solvent diffusion wherein ketoconazole 10 and polymer are dissolved in dichloromethane and the organic phase is introduced into an aqueous polyvinyl alcohol phase under stirring, followed by filtration, drying and vacuum desiccation. The disclosed formulation series exhibits yields of approximately 54.40–76.67%, particle sizes of approximately 243.1–1063.5 nm and entrapment efficiencies of approximately 84.6–96.1%. The nanosponges 15 provide sustained ketoconazole release over 24 hours. Representative formulations KNS3 and KNS8 demonstrated increased area under the plasma concentration-time curve and prolonged elimination half-life compared with unencapsulated ketoconazole in the reported pharmacokinetic study.
