MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531029432 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on March 27, 2025, for “di-Methyl Ether Catalyst Beads And Method Of Preparation Thereof”.

Inventors include Thirupathi Govindaswamy; Dineshkumar Thiruselvam; and Madhusoodana Chengala Damodara.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to Di-Methyl Ether (DME) catalyst beads and a method for preparation thereof. The invention provides a process for converting catalyst powder into uniform-sized beads using extrusion or granulation techniques. The catalyst beads comprise an active material selected from alumina, silica, aluminosilicate or combinations thereof, along with organic binders and plasticizers. The preparation method involves mixing the components to form a homogeneous slurry, shaping into nodules, forming beads through extrusion or granulation, followed by drying and calcination. The resulting catalyst beads exhibit uniform size in the range of 3–5 mm, high surface area, improved mechanical strength with crushing strength greater than 25 N/cm, and controlled water absorption in the range of 10– 15%. The invention provides catalyst beads suitable for use in catalytic processes with enhanced performance, reduced pressure drops, and improved durability. FIGURE: 1
