Abstract: ABSTRACT “CRYSTALLINE KETAMINE HYDROCHLORIDE AND PROCESS FOR PREPARATION THEREOF” The present invention relates to crystalline ketamine hydrochloride and processes for preparing the same. More particularly, the invention provides crystalline ketamine hydrochloride having defined physicochemical properties, including a controlled particle size distribution, specific surface area, X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) characteristics, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) profile. The invention further provides a needle polymorphic form and a crystal polymorphic form of ketamine hydrochloride, each exhibiting characteristic XRPD and DSC properties. The invention also provides processes for preparing the polymorphic forms by controlled crystallization from aqueous or methanol-water solvent systems under defined cooling conditions to obtain crystalline ketamine hydrochloride having reproducible needle and crystal habit and high purity. The disclosed processes are suitable for industrial-scale manufacture and provide crystalline ketamine hydrochloride having controlled particle size distribution, excellent crystallinity, high chemical purity, and reproducible solid-state characteristics.
