Abstract: BIODEGRADABLE UV-SHIELDING COATING COMPOSITION FOR PHOTOSENSITIVE STORAGE CONTAINERS Abstract of the Invention The present invention relates to a biodegradable ultraviolet (UV)-shielding coating composi-tion (100) comprising lignin (101) derived from lignocellulosic agricultural biomass, a plant-derived oil (102), and a carrier solvent (103). The lignin (101) and plant-derived oil (102) are provided in a weight ratio of 10:1 to 2:1 and are dispersed to form a coating com-position (100) configured to produce a flexible, translucent and removable UV-shielding film. The composition (100) is applicable to a substantially transparent storage container (202) by spraying, brushing or dipping. Upon drying, the composition forms a translucent UV-shielding film (206) configured to attenuate UV radiation while permitting visible-light transmission. The plant-derived oil (102) improves flexibility and cohesion, enabling re-moval of the film (206) by peeling or washing. The coating thereby provides temporary UV protection while permitting visual inspection of container contents.
