MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641116045 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 28, 2026, for “an Intelligent Slope Stability Monitoring And Early Warning System”.

Inventors include Arunava Ray; Samriddhi Sarkar; and Sagnik Chattaraj.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent slope stability monitoring and early warning system for real-time prediction of a Factor of Safety (FoS) of carbonate residual-soil slopes. The system acquires slope height, slope angle, residual soil depth, soil water content and soil fine content using field sensors and site- characterization data, without requiring cohesion or friction-angle values as deployment-stage inputs. The acquired parameters are processed by an edge-based prediction engine comprising a plurality of differently configured machine-learning and deep-learning models trained using field investigations, laboratory characterization and numerical slope-stability models. Predictions from the models are combined through a meta-learning framework to determine a resultant FoS and classify the slope into safe, warning or critical stability zones. The system further provides explainable warnings identifying dominant parameters contributing to instability and communicates slope status to a central digital-twin platform for continuous monitoring, temporal assessment and adaptive slope-risk management.
